"The Goose and The Gander"
Size
36 inches wide, 20 inches tall, by 1 inch thick
(SOLD)
This original composition started with the barn which is located at Lincoln's New Salem Historic Site. I changed the way the fence is and added the wagon, which I had seen at an antique farm show. The wagon and the barn were never together; in fact, they were over 100 miles apart. After I put the barn and the wagon together, the composition looked like it was missing something, until I added the geese. The geese seemed to dominate the composition, so the name "The Goose and The Gander" was born.
Even though this is the third carving of this sketch, each one is unique because I change something to make them one of a kind.
This is also a free-form relief because the outside edge takes on the shape of the carving.
